Special LeakyCon Warner Bros. Studio Tour!
LeakyCon attendees are invited to a special event at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour - The Making of Harry Potter! Join us as we celebrate the magic of the Harry Potter films with each other: you can attend by adding this ticket to your registration right here (and you can bring your family and friends too!).

Included for all of our guests in this event (in addition to the magnificent tour of the movie sets provided by WB!) are: bus (coach) transportation to and from Watford Junction Railway Station (so please arrive there about an hour before your entrance time!), as well as a Butterbeer in a souvenir cup. Stroll the studios with your favorite Harry Potter friends, or even your friends and family who aren't coming to the rest of LeakyCon! Walk the Great Hall, take a picture of yourself playing Quidditch, gaze in amazement at the costumes and sets, find the actual Leaky Cauldron. This is a guaranteed evening of magic so don't miss it!

This pass is not included in the LeakyCon ticket and must be added to your registration, or purchased separately from a registration. Get a pass (or add it to your registration) here!

LeakyCon 2013 Signing Procedures

Hey everyone: this is very important info that applies to every LeakyCon guest! The ONLY way to assure a safe and speedy signing procedure for everyone is below, and we are counting on your participation!

LeakyCon is one of very few conferences that offers autograph sessions at no additional cost; however, registration for LeakyCon does not guarantee you access to any autograph session. In an effort to eliminate waiting time and run the signings at LeakyCon 2013 more efficiently, we have borrowed a procedure from one of the only other conferences to offer free signatures, a large conference you may have heard of called Comic-Con.

Please note the following procedures only pertain to regular guests and most autograph events.  LeakyCon Lit signings are only open to those LeakyCon guests who have registered for Leaky Lit.  Wizard rock signings will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis.  If you are a RockStar, then you have a special plan in place, and the following only concerns you if you would like to enter the drawing for an additional signing pass.

Access to all autograph sessions will be granted via drawings on Friday and Saturday mornings. Attendance at this drawing is the only way to assure your spot in the signing, unless you are a RockStar (see above).

Drawing Times:

Friday at 8:00 AM in the Exhibit Hall

  • 9:30 AM: Team StarKid – Clark Baxtresser, Jaime Lyn Beatty, Brian Holden, Lauren Lopez, Joey Richter, Dylan Saunders, Meredith Stepien, Joe Walker
  • 12:00 PM: Benedict Clarke, Ellie Darcey-Alden, Alfie Enoch, Rohan Gotobed, Robbie Jarvis, Evanna Lynch, Ryan Turner
  • 4:30 PM: Hank Green

Saturday at 8:00 AM in the Exhibit Hall

  • 11:00 AM: Scarlett Byrne, Benedict Clarke, Ellie Darcey-Alden, Rohan Gotobed, Robbie Jarvis, Evanna Lynch, Christopher Rankin, Ryan Turner
  • 1:00 PM: Hank Green

So here’s how it works:

Drawing Procedure

  1. Please line up in the Empire Room at the time listed above to enter the drawing for the signing pass you wish to have.  There will be multiple lines, each marked with the pass you may obtain.
  2. There will be a volunteer at the front of each line with a mystery bag of passes.
  3. When you reach the front of the line you will pull a pass out of the bag.
  4. You will either pull a winning or a non-winning pass.
  5. If you pull a winning pass, then you have gained access to that signing and should reconvene at the Exhibition Hall at the time of the signing.
  6. If you pull a non-winning pass, then put it back in the bag. You have not gained access to that signing and should try again the next day or you may return to the end of the line if you wish.

There will be enough passes in the bag to help assure that all of the signings are full and that no one waits in line unnecessarily.

All of the drawings for the day’s signings will take place at the same time. When you arrive for the drawing, you should choose the signing session you are most interested in and stand that line first. Once you have drawn a pass for that signing, you may stand in the other line, if you like. (For example, On Friday you could head to the Team StarKid line, draw a pass, and then join the HP Actors line for a chance at that signing.) This should be a very fast process so please don’t worry about not getting on the line you want!

Ok, so you have your pass... what next?

Signing Procedure

  1. If you won a pass at the morning lottery, please line up at the signing room at the allotted signing time. There is no need to line up early. Everyone who receives a pass will be granted access to the appropriate signing.  However, it is recommended that you line up closer to the beginning of the signing rather than closer to the end.  The signing will end at its appointed time, and we need to move things along - we know you’re ready to go to your next bit of programming, so we don’t want to hold you up!
  2. You may only have one item signed at each signing. You may not bring in items from your friends who didn’t get passes. One person - one item. This is the only way we can get things going with the speed they need to be respectful to everyone.
  3. After you get your items signed, please leave the signing area promptly.
  4. You may not take photographs or videos of yourself with our special guests, or engage in any other activity that will hold up the lines. If you do so, then your pass may be revoked.

Please remember that there will be a lot of LeakyCon guests at each signing. Respect your fellow fans - they are just as excited as you are!

We want to allow as many guests to attend each signing as possible, but in order to do so, we need your help. We need your patience, your calm, and your awesome attitude. Thank you so much for your cooperation!

Our signing procedure is adapted from the one used at Comic-Con, of which we at LeakyCon are big fans. If they can get through that many people fairly, we can work together to make it happen, too!

PureBlood families exist for many reasons, but keeping wealth and bloodlines (race) pure are essential to their motives. This phenomenon is not new, and it is not extinct in the modern world either. Marriage by choice and arranged marriage will be discussed, as well as the reasons for keeping bloodlines pure, wealth pure, and how advantageous marriage can be.

A Comparison Between the Villians in Harry Potter and the Philospher's Stone and the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
An academic paper comparing the representation, role and significance of the villains in children's fantasy texts, specifically comparing Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone, and the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The paper explores what it means to be a conventional villain, and how each of the villains in question either subverts or fits into the role. My paper draws on the traditional forms of villainy and discusses how the White Witch is a traditional villain, whilst Voldemort, who is explored is much depth in the series, is hidden for much of the first book, and isn't an 'active evil' until the end of Goblet of Fire, is much more nuanced, but ultimately, the very reason Harry can love, growing up and maturing into a hero.

Participatory Culture Roles: Lurker, Geeks and Ringleaders
Through Harry Potter, many individuals found themselves becoming experts in digital media and connecting with others in affinity spaces. In the aftermath of the initial excitement, a range of roles has emerged. Some fans stay quiet, yet faithfully read blogs, websites, fanfiction and more. In this presentation, you will discover your secret connections to certain wand woods or cores, and what they tell about yourself. Each wood and core has a symbolic meaning, and through this lecture and discussion, we will discover what the wands within the canon say about their owners and their spirituality. Hopefully, you'll find out a bit about yourself in the process!

Jo, Joss and More: Where Are We in the Transmedia Revolution?
Joanne Rowling and Joss Whedon have much in common. Both born in the mid sixties, they experienced success in the late nineties with stories that created a universe of realistic fantasy and characters so rich and complex that many fans considered them cherished friends. Both are respectful of their fans; they not only allowed, but encouraged fans to join in the creative process, at a time when the internet permitted an easily accessible playground and bonding space.
In this interactive presentation, participants will explore the concept and principles of transmedia storytelling as applied to the Potterverse and Whedonverse. Participants will have learn about the transmedia revolution in which we are engaged by poking and prodding Buffy, Harry and friends.

Medicine, Magic and Law: Muggle History and the Potter Universe
Potions, charms, wands, herbology… familiar ideas to all of us. But, these ideas are not simply flights of fictional fancy – many of them are based in muggle history. The scream of the mandrake was thought dangerous in the Middle Ages. Magistrates in the 17th century used wands to help point out the guilty. Sailors believed that charms would aid their course.
